Hoping to level up your experience with beginner-friendly cables? This 90-minute introductory workshop is for you! While the Antler Toque by tincanknits is a great starter project for knitters hoping to level up their experience with beginner-friendly cables (and sized for baby through adult large), you are welcome to bring an example pattern/project idea that you're interested in exploring. In class, we will focus on teaching you the basics about cables, creating a small swatch together, and helping you plan your first cable project. Our goal is to have you leave with the confidence to tackle a cable project, and if you need additional project support, you can always come back again for Quick Help or in a Bring Your Own Project class.
Please note: Please reference our Class Policy or Help Center for more details on classes, or email classes@michiganfineyarns.com.
Cancellation Policy: For all workshops, please communicate with instructors at classes@michiganfineyarns.com ahead of the date if you’re unable to attend or call the store. Please note that class workshops are non-refundable.
- Dates: Please select the date/time from the drop-down above. If you see a workshop of interest but have a scheduling conflict, we can work that topic into a BYOP as well - we have lots of flexibility in this class. Simply select BYOP in the drop down window and email classes@michiganfineyarns.com to schedule.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
- Prerequisites: Knit, purl, knitting in the round
- Yarn + Class Materials: Please download your pattern from Tin Can Knits' website or via Ravelry prior to class (we will swatch from this pattern) and gather materials as appropriate - please reach out to us if you need help. If you would like to create your swatch and plan your project with us, please bring a worsted or Aran weight yarn (or yarn called for in your specific project), a cable needle (we can help you pick these out at the beginning of class), and needles appropriate for your yarn weight. (Note: While you’re encouraged to bring your own needles/notions, we request that yarn used in classes be purchased at MFY.) For yarns, we recommend a lighter-colored Reborn Wool Recycled, Lucky Tweed, or Encore Tweed (lighter colors highlight cables more - you want to be able to see your effort!). If you prefer wood needles, we recommend the 16" Lykke driftwood circular needles; if you prefer metal needles, we recommend the 16" ChiaoGoo Red Lace circular needles. For any double-pointed needles needed for your project, we recommend these 6" ChiaoGoo DPNs.
- Cost: $25 + materials
