Koigu Origins - Corriedale & Corriedale/Gotland
- Materials & Care
Koigu Origins is a fiber-first yarn collection that celebrates sheep breeds, wool character, and the role each fiber plays in the finished fabric. Created in honor of 50 years of Koigu in 2022, Origins reflects the Landra family’s deep love of textile art, rooted in their Estonian heritage and long-standing commitment to thoughtful, intentional yarn making.
Spun as a single-ply DK weight with a robust 32-micron profile, Koigu Origins is designed for warmth, durability, and texture. This is a yarn made for garments that work hard and wear beautifully, especially outerwear and pieces meant to keep you warm on cool, damp days. Each skein is dyed in Koigu’s signature, richly saturated colors, bringing depth and artistry to this purpose-driven wool.
The Corriedale variant is made from 100% Corriedale wool, one of the oldest established crossbred sheep, originating in New Zealand in the 1860s through crossings with Merino. This heritage gives Corriedale wool its signature balance of softness, length, and resilience. With a mid-micron range of 22–34 microns, Corriedale produces a fabric that is warm, breathable, and sturdy without feeling overly coarse, making it an excellent choice for sweaters, accessories, and outdoor garments that need structure and longevity.
The Corriedale + Gotland blend combines 70% Corriedale with 30% Gotland wool, introducing added strength, texture, and a naturally grey base. Gotland sheep originate from the Swedish island of Gotland, believed to have been brought there by Vikings, and are prized for their long, lustrous fleece in the 29–34 micron range. Blending these two breeds results in a yarn with beautiful depth, enhanced durability, and visible fiber character, ideal for heritage-style knits, structured garments, and pieces where the wool itself is meant to shine.
