Each workshop is $25 and requires a minimum of 3 / maximum of 12 participants. Register for individual courses by adding them to your cart or email classes@michiganfineyarns.com to reserve your seats!

(Note: While you’re encouraged to bring your own needles/notions, we request that yarn used in classes and workshops be purchased at MFY.)

Intro to Amigurumi

In this 90-minute workshop, we’ll introduce you to Amigurumi, the Japanese art of crocheting small stuffed animals, usually through in-the-round construction. Designed for those with some crochet experience, or crocheters looking to learn a new skill, this workshop will get you on your way to being as big of a fan as we are!

🧶 Prerequisites:Single and double crochet
🧶 Yarn + Class Materials: We'll provide a simple amigurumi octopus pattern in the workshop - you'll need worsted-weight yarn and a US H crochet hook
🧶 Cost: $25/person + materials

Tunisian Crochet Fingerless Mitts

Interested in learning the basics of Tunisian Crochet with a simple, beginner project? These fingerless mitts are for you! In this 90-minute workshop you'll learn the basics for Tunisian simple stitch, get started on your custom-sized fingerless mitts, and leave with the confidence to finish up your first Tunisian Crochet project!

🧶 Prerequisites: How to make a crochet chain
🧶 Yarn + Class Materials: A skein of worsted weight yarn and a size J Tunisian crochet hook with cable will be needed for this workshop. For your hook, we recommend Knitter's Pride Dreams Tunisian crochet hook and a 32" interchangeable cable.
🧶 Cost: $25/person + materials

Crochet for Knitters

Ever pass up a pattern because the finishing called for a crochet border? Fret no more, knitters! Let us walk you through the basics of crochet by demonstrating two commonly used crochet border techniques.

🧶 Prerequisites: How to tension yarn while knitting
🧶 Yarn + Class Materials: Two colors of worsted weight yarn and a US H crochet hook. We recommend Cascade 220 Superwash or Encore for the yarn.
🧶 Homework: Please arrive with two pre-made swatches of yarn using the pattern below - you will learn using your own your pre-made swatches.  Ideally your border yarn and swatches are two contrasting colors, but that is not required. Swatch (please make 2): Using a worsted yarn and appropriately sized needles, cast on 20 sts. Knit approximately 20 rows of stockinette stitch (knit on front; purl on the back); bind off loosely.
🧶 Cost: $25/person + materials

Two-At-A-Time Toe-Up Socks

It's time to learn the secrets behind magic loop! Level up your knitting experience with this technique and unmask the mystery behind using magic loop for small-circumference knitting - specifically for making two toe-up socks at a time! In this 90-minute workshop we will provide an introduction to knitting two-at-a-time toe-up socks. Getting projects started is the trickiest part of these socks. Our goal is to have you leave with the confidence to continue your project independently with confidence!

🧶 Prerequisites:Knitting, purling, knitting in the round
🧶 Yarn + Class Materials: Please bring your toe-up sock pattern and suggested materials. We like this pattern for beginner toe-up socks. If you're interested in making "two-at-a-time toe-up" socks, we recommend trying one of Urth Yarns Uneek Sock Kits and a ChiaoGoo Red Lace circular needle of at least 40". If you need help planning your project, please let us know!
🧶 Cost: $25/person + materials

Next Level Granny Squares

In this 90-minute workshop, we’ll help you level up your Granny Squares! Our goal is to have you leave with the confidence to tackle your own granny square project!

🧶 Prerequisites:Familiarity with the basic crochet Granny Square
🧶 Yarn + Class Materials: We'll provide a simple Granny Square pattern in the workshop. You'll need two colors of worsted weight yarn and a US H crochet hook.
🧶 Cost: $25/person + materials

Shape Your Shawl

Shawls have five basic shapes: Circular, semi-circular, triangular, square, and heart shaped. In this 90 minute workshop, we will introduce you to these basic shapes, their construction, help you plan your preferred shawl, and get you started with your project! Our goal is to have you leave with the confidence to independently complete your shawl.

🧶 Prerequisites:Knit, purl
🧶 Yarn + Class Materials: Any yarn of choice and appropriately sized needles or hook - yardage depends on the preferred shawl size, the designs allow you to continue in the pattern until your desired size. We're happy to help you plan your project and select materials during the workshop!
🧶 Cost: $25/person + materials
