In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll learn the core techniques used to create the Uma Scarf, including working center-out increases, managing stitch markers, and maximizing your yarn—perfect for making the most of a luxury fiber. We’ll also cover adding a contrasting edge for a clean, polished finish and share tips for blocking to achieve the scarf’s signature bandana shape. 

This workshop is ideal for knitters who are comfortable with knit and purl and are ready to build confidence with increases and shaping. You’ll also get the chance to experience knitting with a luxury yarn—only two balls are needed to make this elegant accessory. You’ll leave with the skills to confidently continue your Uma scarf at home, and if you’d like more support, you’re always welcome to join one of our Quick Help or Bring Your Own Project Knitting classes throughout the week!

• Prerequisites: the knit stitch and the purl stitch
• Yarn + Class Materials:The Uma Scarf is designed in a soft cashmere, but you can choose any light fingering, sport, or DK weight yarn to make it your own. 

   

  You’ll need approximately 50–75 g of yarn, depending on the size you choose. We recommend a 24”–32” circular needle in US 2.5 (3.0 mm); for a DK-weight scarf, a larger needle may be needed. Email us at classes@michiganfineyarns.com for a personalized recommendation based on your yarn choice.

  Stop by the store before your workshop and we’ll help you pick the perfect yarn and needles. The Uma Scarf pattern is available on Ravelry—please bring a printout or have it in your Ravelry library before class. While you’re welcome to bring your own notions, we ask that yarn used in classes be purchased at MFY.
