Welcome to the Alpine Shawl Knit Along (KAL)!

The Alpine Shawl KAL is the first joint knit along hosted by malabrigo and Blue Sky Fibers and features a beautiful design by Jill Tamminen of KnitSisu that was created especially for this event! The shawl combines malabrigo Arroyo with Blue Sky Fibers Prairie for a meditative knit that is both light and cozy with a beautiful mix of textures.

Pattern

The pattern will be emailed to all registered participants. Information about the shawl can be found on Ravelry to create a project, but the page will direct you back to the malabrigo registration form for the pattern.

Materials

You will need two skeins of malabrigo Arroyo and one skein of Blue Sky Fibers Prairie for this project. The sample in the pattern was knit using Arroyo in the colors Sombra de Palma and Cape Cod Gray and Prairie in the color Heron. The malabrigo team also put together other colorways they love! We have kits available that you can shop by clicking the link below!

Want to put together your own color palette? We have lots of beautiful Arroyo and Prairie in stock to choose from! Find the colors that speak to you and create a custom shawl that shows off your personality!

In addition to your yarn, you will need a US 6 (4.0mm) circular needle with 40" cord to accommodate all of the stitches and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends. Gauge is not critical for a shawl, but if you are looking to have a similar sized wrap to the pattern, please note that you may need a different size needle to obtain the stated gauge.

Schedule

The Alpine Shawl KAL is expected to begin April 2nd and run through May 5th. The schedule below identifies the giveaway schedule as well as scheduled Zoom meetings with designer Jill Tamminen!

Prizes

KAL participants are invited to share their progress and photos on Ravelry, Facebook, and Instagram during April 2025 for the chance to win weekly prizes. Please, use #malabrigokal on all social media channels. 

To be eligible for the prizes, projects must be knit using only Malabrigo Arroyo and Blue Sky Fibers Praire.

About the Designer

Jill Tamminen is the designer behind Knit Sisu and is back for another malabrigo KAL after she contributed the Friendship Shawl last year! There is a wonderful interview with Jill included in the Alpine Shawl pattern, but we had to share this snippet with you!

"Sisu" is a Finnish word that translates to a quiet mindset of courage, strength, and perseverance. It’s rooted in joy, nature, and faith, and a value with which I was raised. If I can help just one knitter find comfort, joy, and confidence through the help of my patterns, lessons, and/or support, then I’ve done my job.
