About the Designer

Helen Smith, crochet pattern designer.

Helen Smith is the heart and smile behind the popular Instagram account @emkatcrochet. She describes herself as follows:

I started learning to crochet in October 2016. Me and my family were on holiday in wales and I bought a hook, some wool and just watched a video on youtube and made a hat!

Since then I have had a hook in my hand everyday (nearly) and my house has been overtaken by wool! I have fallen head over heels in love with crochet and love making and designing patterns for people to create beautiful things!

Helen also claims to be a lover of rainbows, stripes and bobbles. We think this photo proves these things to be true indeed!

As you work on your project, we would love if you share your progress by tagging us on Instagram and/or Facebook @michiganfineyarns and using our project hashtags #michiganfineyarns #MFYcal. You can also join us Thursdays from 6-8pm for Community Night at the shop and crochet with fellow makers!
