Welcome to the Malabrigo Mechita Long Journey Shawl Knit Along (KAL)! The Long Journey Shawl is a lightweight, asymmetrical shawl rich with texture. Cables and twisted stitches meander throughout the piece for a soft but sophisticated look. Designed in fingering weight Mechita - a soft, single ply of 100% Superwash Merino Wool - the project calls for one skein each of two complementary colors. The final measurements are roughly 11" x 84" depending on your personal gauge.
This is a nice smaller project for intermediate knitters, but beginners should not be deterred! It is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to cable with confidence on a smaller accessory, and we have tutorials to help you along the way!
The pattern is available for FREE on Ravelry. The event runs from March 1st through March 28th.
We've got kits featuring the colors shown in the pattern (Neverland and Pascal - our Kit A) as well as nine other hand-selected pairings that will get your wheels turning!
We also have plenty of Mechita in stock from tonals to speckles to variegated colorways! Whether you want high contrast or a soft fade, there are beautiful options for you! We know this shawl will look fantastic no matter which colors you choose.
The KAL will run from March 1st through March 28th with two sections of the pattern being worked each week. You can click on the calendar below to open a larger view of the full schedule.
Join in or follow all the activity on Ravelry, Instagram and Facebook! Malabrigo will have a thread on their Ravelry page throughout the KAL as well as a Facebook group and blog posts. We will chat in our private MFY Make Along Facebook group along with our check in posts and sharing your progress photos. Additionally, you are always welcome to come knit with us at Community Night on Thursdays from 6-8pm!
If you want to participate, but have never cabled or done a project like this, consider signing up for a Knitting BYOP Bundle!
We also have video tutorials available with tips and tricks to help you work through your project. Below are some we think will be particularly helpful for this pattern!
Takako also did an interview with malabrigo that they shared on their blog. It's always interesting to learn more about the design process and inspiration!
