Project Idea: Lotus Flower Beanie

If you’ve been looking to knit a hat, or generally perusing social media much in the past month or two, you’ve probably come across the beautiful Lotus Flower Beanie by BKnitsHandmade. Spring may be just around the corner, but this beanie has us appreciating the cold weather...at least for a little while longer!

The Lotus Flower Beanie pattern includes multiple sizes and instructions based on two different yarn weights - bulky and super bulky. The pattern is considered an intermediate skill level, but it includes tutorials and would certainly be doable for an adventurous beginner!

Special shout out to our customer, Nora, who knit the hat featured in the photos below! The hat is beautiful, and we love your model, Hector!

Bulky weight projects are very popular right now, and the Lotus Flower Beanie is a great example as to why. You don’t need many yards or techniques to create something that looks stunning, projects work up quickly, and using bold, graphic patterns allows the yarn to be the visual focal point. The large stitches highlight the beautiful variegated colorways!

Single ply yarns like Malabrigo Rasta - one of the suggested yarns and what was used for Nora’s hat in the photographs - lack the twist of other yarns, giving projects an extra squishy look and feel. Finish with a fabulous pom pom and you’ve created full-on luxury for your head! The star-like lotus stitch is a denser, less stretchy stitch pattern than is common for many hats, but BKnitsHandmade paired it with a cushy rib stitch to keep our ears toasty and comfortable.

If we’ve convinced you to give this project a try, here is the basic information you’d need to get started. Large needles and thick yarn make this a very fast knit, once you get the hang of the featured star stitch, and we are always happy to help if you have any questions or need support. Just give us a call or stop by the shop!
