Project Idea: Temperance Shawl
Did you see the news? We’ve started a new knit-a-long! We are joining Malabrigo’s 2021 KAL and the pattern is the beautiful Temperance Shawl designed specifically for this event! You know we love community and hope you’ll join us as we knit through this shawl together! You can find details on the event here! Did we mention the pattern is FREE?!
Knit in a fingering weight yarn on larger needles, the Temperance Shawl is plush and cozy without being bulky - perfect for cool spring nights and the transition to air conditioning! This is a great shawl pattern for adventurous beginners, but the different textures and color melding will also keep even the most advanced knitters engaged!
Knit from tip to tip, the asymmetrical shawl features a center spine created through decreases with increases at the borders. Squishy garter stitch, stripes, eyelets and twisted rib add visual interest and contrasting textures while also making beautiful right and wrong sides of the fabric. No fussing with hiding the wrong side while you’re wearing this shawl!
Do stripes give you nightmares of hundreds of loose ends to weave in? Never fear! Malabrigo has you covered with specific instructions for carrying the yarn along the edge to avoid having to cut your yarns! Doesn’t eliminate all the ends, but it is way more manageable with a beautiful look!
If we’ve convinced you to give this project a try, the basic information you’d need to get started is below. Changing colors and textures will keep you interested in this project from start to finish, and the larger needles will make for visible progress - even with fingering weight yarn! We are always happy to help if you have questions or run into a technique you haven’t tried yet. Just give us a call or stop by the shop!
