About Isager
Founded by Marianne Isager and her daughter Helga, Isager - a Danish company - has been supplying patterns and natural fiber yarns since 1977. At the heart of Isager's history is the legacy of the late Åse Lund Jensen, a pioneer in the field, dedicated advocate for knitting, educator, designer, and friend of Marianne Isager. Based in a village near the North Sea, surrounded by beautiful countryside, Isager continues to honor their past while creating modern classics for today.
About Åse Lund Jensen
Åse Lund Jensen (1920-1977) took her hand knitting very seriously. She was a pioneer in textile art, and her patterns were both highly artistic and highly technical. Taking Danish preferences into consideration, she toned down the bolder colors of the 1960s and created hand knit garments with more plant-based dyes and less saturated colors. Åse saw that customers wanted to knit sweaters themselves, so she shifted into education.

There are several books on knitting that Åse Lund Jensen wrote that are still used today due to them being "clear and logical in composition as well as in their aesthetic presentation." With her background in haute couture and commercial design, Åse Lund Jensen took knitters from creating three connected tubes, to knitting with shaping and proper fit for each and every body shape.
By 1972, Åse Lund Jensen had developed the single ply yarn Spinni that is still part of the Isager line. She curated a palette of earthy grays, greens, browns and blues that coordinated with one another, while consciously leaving out "trendy" colors.
Åse Lund Jensen lived a full life and left a lasting mark on the fiber industry and Danish history. Isager's website includes a lovely article with a much more detailed history including the many accolades and accomplishments that are the backbone of Isager's legacy.
What We Carry
We stock four of Isager's wonderful yarns: Alpaca 2, Jensen, Soft Fine and Spinni. Isager's yarns are rooted in Scandinavian design and boast exceptional quality. Let's look at each one individually!
Alpaca 2 - 50% Alpaca | 50% Wool
This balanced 2-ply blend of Alpaca and Wool offers the softness of alpaca with the structure and resilience of wool. A light fingering weight, Alpaca 2 creates stunning shawls, scarves, lightweight sweaters and baby garments. Hold it together with the other Isager bases for added warmth and dimension!
Jensen - 100% Wool
A stunning 3-ply classic DK weight wool. The firm, evenly spun texture highlights cables, textured stitches and colorwork, while offering excellent durability over time. Jensen is warm yet breathable, is well-suited for indoor and outdoor wear, and it felts beautifully. You'll love the thoughtfully curated range of colors from iconic designer Åse Lund Jensen.
Soft Fine - 63% Alpaca | 26% Silk | 11% Yak
Looking for a mohair alternative that offers a beautiful halo, silky drape and exceptional softness? Stop here! Soft Fine has earned the nickname "Isager's Cashmere" because the silk core surrounded by brushed alpaca and yak fibers is an elegant and versatile option with softness and strength. We also love the subtle mélange effect that adds visual depth!
Spinni - 100% Wool
Spinni is a signature single-ply lace weigt wool yarn known for it's quality craftsmanship and structural integrity. The crisp texture makes it ideal for laceowrk, colorwork and textured stitch patterns. It's light and delicate on its own, and gains body and softness when paired with other yarns like mohair blends.
